Congratulations - News Release

ABOIM Fort Wayne, IN - February 2015 - Parkview Physicians Group is pleased to announce Dr. Angela LaSalle is one of the first physicians to obtain board certification in Integrative Medicine through the American Board of Integrative Medicine® (ABOIM®). She is one of only 121 integrative medicine physicians nationally to obtain the inaugural certification.

Integrative Medicine has recently been recognized by the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS), which is the official certifying body of the American Association of Physician Specialists. Physicians board-certified by ABOIM have demonstrated their mastery of knowledge, competencies, experience and commitment to integrative medicine.

The ABOIM defines integrative medicine as the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals, and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.

Welcome

Parkview Angela LaSalle, MD, is the Medical Director of Integrative Medicine located at 1234 East Dupont Road Suite 3, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Integrative Medicine is with Parkview Physicians Group, a division of Parkview Health.

As Medical Director, Dr. Angela LaSalle brings physician leadership to build a collaboration of medical specialists to streamline treatment and focus on a deeper level of the patient's biochemistry, rather than each specialty working separately. Dr. LaSalle provides executive direction and programming that add value to the patient's decision to receive personalized health care treatment by providing comprehensive integrative health care services that meet their individual needs and help body and mind heal.

Dr. LaSalle Clinical Practice

Dr. Angela LaSalle's practice includes treatment and evaluation of hormonal issues related to thyroid, metabolic syndrome and bio-identical hormone replacement. She has a special interest in the biochemistry, physiology, and inflammatory responses that occur in the body, affecting our genes and brain chemicals.

Believing that addressing all of these are necessary to fight illness and disease, Dr. LaSalle places an emphasis on treating the body as a whole and looking for the common thread that leads to numerous degenerative processes.

Dr. LaSalle sees the opportunity to help fulfill the need to get to the root cause of disease at the level of the patient's biochemistry. Many of our patients come to us because they have been missed by standard health care treatments and diagnoses that tend to address the symptoms, rather than seeking the source of illness.

Looking at the interaction between our genetics and environment, Dr. LaSalle is a strong believer that inflammation is the underlying cause of many diseases. She includes life style, diet, nutritional supplementation and stress management to treat her patient. Her emphasis is on getting to the core issues to slow disease progression, and reversing when possible.

A graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. LaSalle is board certified in Family Medicine with a fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona, a program founded by Andrew Weil, M.D.

Hailing from Fort Wayne, Dr. LaSalle's focus has been in the field of Endocrinology, with special emphasis on the interplay of hormones, nutrition and lifestyle on the balance of the neurotransmitters and the immune system. Dr. LaSalle's practice in the greater Fort Wayne metropolitan and northeast Indiana regional area expands the delivery of Integrative Medicine services that bring a higher focus on preventative care to Indiana and Midwest residents.

Integrative Medicine

Parkview Physicians Group Integrative Medicine is a clinical division of Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) with a focus and reputation in world-class patient care, a multidisciplinary physician medical team, state-of-the-art laboratory assessment, and genetic testing to develop individualized preventative health plans. Integrative Medicine is a holistic perspective of medical care for patients with an emphasis on the individual, not simply the disease - and on prevention, not just treatment.

An excellent support staff of nurse practitioners, counselors, nutritionists and exercise physiologists provides education and counseling for patients and their families. The patient receives individualized recommendations with educational and behavioral support to accomplish necessary lifestyle changes and increase understanding and compliance of treatment.

The clinic provides individualized therapies pulling from traditional medicine, alternative therapies, targeted supplementation, medical nutrition, exercise, stress management and mind body techniques. It builds educational partnerships with ADHD, autism spectrum, cancer prevention, diabetes, thyroid, cardiovascular disease, and other related agencies and organizations. Integrative Medicine fosters research and development of treatment strategies, pharmaceutical and nutritional products, to treat underlying biochemical and nutrient deficiencies. With the growth and maturing of nutrigenomics, we see a trend where the term nutrigenomics will become accepted by patients and the medical scientific community and will eventually change eating habits and perhaps whole lives.
